Updates to the Course Types and Components Policy

The Office of the Registrar proposed revisions to the Course Types and Components policy to consolidate all course types into a single policy and to establish a 'Clinical' course type. The updated policy was approved by the Undergraduate Council, Graduate Council, Undergraduate College Academic Administrators Council, Graduate College Academic Administrators Council, Faculty Senate and the Provost. 

Amendments to the policy include the following:

• Created a 'Clinical' course type to support existing course offerings.
• Refined course type definitions to simplify and clarify offerings.
• Renamed the policy from 'Course Types and Components' to 'Course Types.'
• Incorporated all course types, as some were previously omitted from this policy, and only included in supplemental handouts.
• Streamlined policy to remove contact hour requirements as this is defined in the Credit Definitions policy.

The amended Course Types policy will go into effect beginning in Fall 2026.
