The Office of the Provost Shares Organizational Updates
The Office of the Provost has shared important updates that will further strengthen support for students and engagement with communities on campus, across the state and beyond.
In a message to campus on July 8, Provost and Chief Academic Officer Patricia Prelock announced that the Office of Native American Advancement and Tribal Engagement and the Office of Hispanic Serving Institution Initiatives are now under the Office of the Provost. Marla Franco has been appointed Special Advisor to the Provost for Hispanic Serving Institution Initiatives, and Levi Esquerra will serve as Special Advisor to the Provost for Native American Affairs. They will be joining Jenna Hatcher, Vice Provost for Campus Community Connections and Special Advisor, as all three leaders support student success and engagement with the community.
Hatcher is also making new leadership appointments for the Campus Community Connections unit and the Student Culture and Engagement Hub. Thomas Harris will serve as Interim Executive Director, and Indira Arce will serve as Assistant Director for Campus Community Connections. Additionally, Hatcher has completed the search for the new co-directors of the Student Culture and Engagement Hub, and an announcement will be forthcoming as soon as the hiring process is finalized.
These leaders are well known and respected for their commitment to supporting students and for fostering welcoming environments that promote a strong sense of belonging. They will work closely with Hatcher and Provost Prelock to build on this new unified framework where all communities are connected, valued, and able to thrive throughout their experience at the U of A. In the new collaborative support model, the physical spaces remain in place, our embedded counselors continue to actively support our campus community groups within the spaces, and the same coordinators continue to be present and to facilitate programming.
