Pursuant to the University Policy-Making Policy, the following action is proposed:
Notice of Proposed Parental Leave Policy Revision
Summary:
This policy outlines the parental leave options available to parents upon the birth, adoption, foster placement, legal guardianship placement, stillbirth, miscarriage, or surrogacy of a child.
Revisions to this policy include:
- Moving from interim to permanent status
- Added new defined terms for miscarriage and qualified event
- Under Policy section:
- Added 2 weeks of leave for miscarriage
- Added language clarifying parental leave runs concurrently with FML when eligible and does not extend the FML period
- Revised eligibility for parental leave to 12 months of full benefits employment prior to the qualified event and not the start of the leave
- Revised FAQ section to fulfill Title IX obligations.

Members of the University community are invited to submit written comments via the Policy Feedback box on the policy or by sending comments to policy@arizona.edu. Comments will be submitted to the policy sponsor for review and consideration.
All comments must be received by October 26, 2024.
