Federal Government Shutdown Guidance

Subject: Federal Government Shutdown Guidance
Date: Oct 01, 2025

As of Oct. 1, the federal government has entered a partial shutdown due to a lapse in appropriations bills to fund government operations. The university is closely monitoring the situation and supporting our research community.

We are working to minimize any impact on ongoing research activities and will provide updates as the situation evolves.

What this means for our research community

  • Based on federal agency contingency plans, we anticipate that most federally funded research projects will continue without disruption, unless a stop-work order is issued.

  • We expect delays in proposal reviews, new awards and agency communications across most federal agencies.

  • Financial aid disbursements and student services will continue unaffected.

Guidance and resources

  • Forward shutdown-related communications from your federal sponsor to sponsor@arizona.edu for guidance.

  • Consult the Office of Research and Partnerships federal shutdown resource page for the latest updates, including proactive recommendations and guidance for current awards, proposals and reporting submissions.
