Free Community Event to Honor Martin Luther King Jr.

BEYOND TUCSON: A TIME TO BREAK SILENCE
Tucson Celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Sunday, January 14, 2018
3:00-4:00 PM, Centennial Hall, 1020 E. University Blvd.

The second annual celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is inspired by his famous speech given on April 4, 1967, in which Dr. King officially spoke out against the Vietnam war. The free community event features a multiplicity of voices joining in to honor and respect the vision and integrity of Dr. King through dance, music, poetry, and song. Among the community collaborators are Artifact Dance Project, Words on the Avenue, UA Dance, the UA School of Theatre, Film, and Television, the Fred Fox School of Music, and the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.

Displays in the lobby before and after the program will highlight social justice organizations for visitors who wish to learn more about on- and off-campus organizations that work toward the ideals of MLK, Jr. Participating organizations include the Tucson Indian Center, Southern Arizona YWCA, Emerge! Center Against Domestic Abuse, the UA College Social and Behavioral Sciences, Tucson Second Chance Community Bail Fund, and the Iskashitaa Refugee Network.
