Dr. Craig Wilson will step down from his role as vice provost for Outreach, Distance and Continuing Education and transition to a professor of practice in the College of Education, effective July 1, 2025. As part of this transition, the Office of Outreach, Distance and Continuing Education (ODCE) will join Online Initiatives to further strengthen our efforts in providing flexible, innovative learning opportunities and expanding access to higher education.

Dr. Wilson joined the University of Arizona in June 2020 as vice provost for Arizona Online, later expanding his leadership to include Distance Education, Community Education and Continuing Education. Under his leadership, Arizona Online grew from 4,600 to over 9,000 students and earned top 10 rankings in U.S. News & World Report for online bachelor’s programs in 2021, 2022 and 2023. The program also secured top 5 rankings for veterans’ programs in 2022 and 2023.

Throughout his tenure, Dr. Wilson contributed significantly to online and continuing education, serving on the AZ SARA Council and the UPCEA National Council for Chief Online Learning Officers. His leadership supported key milestones, including the graduation of the 500th Nursing student from the BSN-Integrative Health program in Gilbert and over 3,500 noncredit learners through Continuing Education.

The Office of the Provost extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Wilson for his dedication and contributions in expanding noncredit programs and creating accessible, affordable career transition opportunities in Southern Arizona.
