Arizona Public Media recently received an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) from the Steven M. Gootter Foundation. In addition, The Gootter Foundation arranged two separate Chest-Compression-only CPR/AED trainings for AZPM staff.

Sudden cardiac arrest occurs when the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops pumping blood. If cardiac arrest does occur, rapid treatment with an AED can be life-saving.

Since 2009 the Foundation has donated and distributed hundreds of AEDs to schools, police and sheriff departments, places of worship, and recreational and public places throughout Southern Arizona. Should the need ever arise, this generous and lifesaving gift will be available for use, at the AZPM studios on the University of Arizona campus.

In 2015, AZPM shared the tragic yet inspiring story of the foundation's namesake Steven M. Gootter who died from sudden cardiac arrest in 2005 at the age of 42.
