The Inclusive Excellence Award winners were recognized for efforts to make campus more inclusive through their work in LGBTQ mental health and wellness, environmental resilience and more.

Martha Bhattacharya, assistant professor in the Department of Neuroscience, won The Margaret M. Briehl and Dennis T. Ray Five Star Faculty Award, the only teaching award whose honoree is chosen by undergraduates.

The University of Arizona makes its third consecutive appearance on Forbes' fifth annual Best Employers For Diversity list, The University is ranked No. 18 among the 40 educational institutions on the list, and No. 10 among public colleges and universities.

Members of the first cohort will be working in history, Africana studies, astronomy, Spanish and public policy. "We have invested a great deal in creating pathways to success for our students. Taking the same kind of approach for talented scholars and scientists from diverse backgrounds to begin academic careers enriches our University community and upholds our values as an institution," says President Robert C. Robbins.

Many of McDermott's nominators said his expertise, plus preparation efforts he led years ago, helped the University navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. McDermott, a physician at Campus Health, is one of several individuals and teams recognized in the 2022 Awards for Excellence.
