Portillo, senior business manager in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, was praised for her deep understanding of the day-to-day workings of the department as well as the University's ever-changing policies and technological systems. Award winners will be honored at a ceremony on Friday.

Among the honorees were the University's newest Regents Professors and Distinguished Outreach Faculty. "Teaching, research, service and outreach – these are the fundamentals of faculty work that we celebrate today," Ronald W. Marx, interim senior vice president for academic affairs and provost, said during the ceremony. "We have woven mentorship into this fabric as the connective thread that ties us together and lifts the next generation."
