Parking and Transportation Services Introduces a New Fleet Services Model and Policy
As part of ongoing efforts to improve operations and better serve departments and units across the institution, Parking and Transportation Services is introducing a new model to manage the university's fleet of vehicles more efficiently and sustainably.
As part of this effort, PTS has consolidated the Motor Pool, Garage Services and Vehicle Procurement teams into a unified Fleet Services team, led by a new director of fleet services, Lorraine Padilla. Padilla has a master's in business administration from the University of Arizona and has held several roles within PTS since 2017. She brings relevant experience, valuable expertise and leadership to the team.
About the New Fleet Services Team
The new Fleet Services team will oversee vehicle procurement and maintenance of all university-owned vehicles, including golf carts (sometimes called golf cars). The team will also develop and implement a comprehensive fleet management strategy for the university, including the establishment of purchasing and service agreements that will generate economies of scale. The new model will help standardize practices and provide an integrated approach to fleet management that aligns with the university's broader financial and sustainability goals.
What Is Changing
While vehicles and golf carts currently managed by departments and units will remain assigned to them, all vehicles will now be included in the university's fleet inventory and enrolled in the university's life cycle maintenance program for preventative care and long-term reliability.
Moving forward, Fleet Services will work with all departments and units for vehicle procurement, including golf carts. The Fleet Services team will assess needs, manage vehicle procurement, and oversee title registration, licensing, branding, maintenance and eventual surplusing. These changes are formalized in the new University Fleet Vehicle Procurement, Maintenance & Life Cycle Management Policy.
