Date: Sep 15, 2025

Students have received an email outlining their rights under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the federal law that governs the access to and release of student education records.

Employees who have access to student records in any capacity are responsible for handling that information in compliance with FERPA and university policy. For an overview of these responsibilities, visit the Instructor and Staff FERPA page.

To help meet these responsibilities, FERPA training is mandatory for any employee who works with student data. The training provides the knowledge and tools needed to manage student records confidently and in accordance with legal and university standards.

Training is available through Edge Learning for those who need to complete it or would like a refresher.

To further support understanding and application of FERPA, the Office of the Registrar is hosting a FERPA open forum in October. Register here to participate.
