Updates to the Undergraduate Transfer Credit Policy
The Office of the Registrar proposed updates to the Undergraduate Transfer Credit policy to improve clarity, align requirements with current General Education standards, and simplify transfer pathways for students. This update expands recognition of completed credentials, removes duplicative language, and ensures consistency with existing university policies.
The updated policy was approved by the University-Wide General Education Committee, Undergraduate Council, Undergraduate College Academic Administrators Council, Faculty Senate and the Provost.
Amendments to the policy include the following:
- Added the Civic Institutions requirement to transfer applicability for both individual courses and completed General Education curricula, ensuring alignment with current General Education requirements and providing students with a complete and consistent pathway for fulfilling degree requirements.
- Expanded eligibility for satisfying a complete General Education curriculum to include Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees, simplifying transfer from community colleges and reducing barriers to degree completion.
- Updated applicability rules to allow coursework over eight years old to apply toward General Education requirements and electives, aligning with the existing Time Limits policy and increasing flexibility for transfer students.
- Removed detailed language describing criteria for specific General Education requirements, eliminating duplication with the General Education Curriculum policy and improving clarity and maintainability of policy content.
- Updated references from the Office of Transfer Credit & Articulation to the Office of the Registrar, reflecting current practice and ensuring accurate institutional alignment.
The amended Undergraduate Transfer Credit policy will be effective for fall 2026.
