Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to share some Faculty Affairs highlights, current resources, and opportunities. Please visit our website for more information about available faculty resources. Our annual report with further details is available on the Faculty Affairs reports and data website.

Many of you know our amazing team members whom we are lucky to continue working with (Judy Marquez Kiyama, Adrián Arroyo, and Kim Rogan), and we are pleased to introduce you to our newest members.

New to the Faculty Affairs Team

Bryan Carter is the new Faculty Co-Director of the MENTOR Institute. Dr. Carter is an expert on the practice of mentoring and will bring the institutionalization of meaningful mentoring programs. Dr. Carter brings extensive experience in working with inclusive practices around mentoring undergraduate and graduate students through his professorship and work with community partners. Dr. Carter is an Associate Professor of Africana Studies at the College of Humanities and Director of the Center for Digital Humanities.

Ron Hammer also joins the MENTOR Institute as co-director. Dr. Hammer is trained as a mentor facilitator by the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has facilitated mentor training sessions using the National Research Mentor Network materials cross campus, emphasizing STEM. Dr. Hammer is experienced in mentoring postdocs, undergraduates, medical students, and early career faculty. Dr. Hammer is a professor of Basic Medical Sciences, Pharmacology, and Psychiatry, Co-chair for the Graduate Council, and Co-director of the Clinical Translational Sciences.

Tara Chandler is the Assistant Director of Faculty Mentoring Initiatives. Her primary focus is to help coordinate MENTOR Institute activities, including online internal training to support mentoring for faculty and graduate students, coordinate faculty peer group mentoring communities, support the MENTOR Institute faculty directors and contribute to implementing innovative mentoring strategies.

Susana Arreola is an Administrative Associate for Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs Andrea Romero. She is responsible for prioritizing and arranging meetings, conferences, and appointments and supporting the administrative duties of the Faculty Affairs team.
