Banner – University Medicine North will open its doors to its first patients on Dec. 28, making state-of-the-art care — in a soothing setting — available to patients in Tucson and across Arizona.

The three-story, 13-acre outpatient clinic is located just east of the University of Arizona Cancer Center – North Campus. Specialties will range from cardiology to neurosurgery to rheumatology, with more than 25 specialties available by mid-January.

"What I really like about this building is that we have this nice, modern architecture that takes advantage of the wonderful vistas we have in the Catalina Mountains," says Dr. Charles B. Cairns, dean of the UA College of Medicine – Tucson.

"This beautiful, spacious building puts an emphasis on privacy, and I think that not only enhances the patient experience but also makes our providers feel better about conditions for the patients and about the place they practice."

Kathy Bollinger, president of Banner – University Medicine, says the building means many things to many people.

"To Banner Health, it means keeping our commitment to Tucson and the University of Arizona College of Medicine," Bollinger says. "It means bringing better, more efficient care to patients. It means giving faculty a home they can be really proud to work in, and it means a really wonderful investment in the city of Tucson."

What Bollinger is most excited about, she says, is that when patients walk into the clinic, they should be able to get everything they need under one roof and in an innovative, collaborative and coordinated way.

Cairns says the clinic also represents a broader vision in health care for Tucson and the state.

"Banner – University Medicine is opening up a brand-new hospital in April 2019 that will also be state-of-the-art and designed based on patient needs," Cairns says. "We want to let the people of Tucson and people across Arizona know that we really want to engage them in a way that is meaningful, pleasant and — most importantly — effective when it comes to their care."

Banner – University Medicine North is at 3838 N. Campbell Ave., Tucson.
