Dec. 16: Duo Updates to NetID+ Two-factor Authentication
The university continues to strengthen its cybersecurity measures by introducing advanced NetID+ two-factor authentication features provided by Duo. Beginning Monday, Dec. 16, employees and students will be automatically enrolled in Risk-Based Authentication and 30-second time-limited passcodes to help prevent unauthorized access to university accounts and personal information.
How these changes will impact you
Risk-based authentication dynamically adjusts to the context and perceived risk level of a login attempt and will be activated only if suspicious activity is detected on your account, such as a login from a new device or unusual location.
- If this occurs, Duo will prompt a second authentication by generating a passcode in your Duo Mobile app.
- Enter the passcode to verify you are authenticating. If it is not you, deny the request. (Contact the 24/7 Support Center if you do not have the Duo app installed on your device.)
- Duo time-limited passcodes will refresh every 30 seconds to prevent cyber criminals from harvesting them and reusing later.
- If you delay entering the passcode, it will expire and a new one will be generated in your Duo Mobile app.
- The change does not affect Duo Push or other NetID+ authentication methods. Information and support
Using the Duo Mobile app is the simplest way to complete your NetID+ two-factor authentication. Verify you have the latest version via the App Store or Google Play.
