Facilities Management Receives Educational Facilities Association's Highest Honor
APPA, an international organization that aims to improve educational facilities around the world, will present Facilities Management with an Award for Excellence, the organization's highest institutional honor.
The award will be presented in August during APPA's annual conference in Washington, D.C.
Officially known as APPA – Leadership in Educational Facilities, the 104-year-old organization serves more than 1,300 learning institutions around the world. Its Award for Excellence was established in 1988 and highlights "the essential role of facilities operations in the overall institutional mission and vision," according to APPA. Winners are evaluated on criteria including leadership, strategic and operational planning, customer focus and performance results. The designation is valid for five years.
This is Facilities Management's second APPA Award for Excellence. It received the first in 2013.
Chris Kopach, UA assistant vice president of facilities management, is the current APPA president.
Maciulla Wins State Veterinary Association's Distinguished Service Award
Jim Maciulla, assistant dean for clinical relations and outreach at the UA's proposed College of Veterinary Medicine, has received the Arizona Veterinary Medical Association's Distinguished Service Award. Maciulla was presented with the award at the association's annual Desert West Connection conference in Tucson on May 17.
The association's Distinguished Service Award is given to a veterinarian who has made exceptional contributions to the veterinary community and the profession. Taken into consideration are service on committees, leadership and active involvement in the Arizona veterinary community.
Maciulla graduated from the UA with bachelor's and master's degrees in animal science before attending veterinary school at Colorado State University. He owned and managed Continental Animal Wellness Center, a successful mixed-animal practice in Flagstaff, and has been active in AzVMA leadership, serving as president from 2015 to 2016.
He also has served as a preceptor and mentor for veterinary students, was a 4-H veterinary sciences club leader, and has led and participated in veterinary missions to several Native American reservations.
Maciulla joined the UA in May.
AZPM Receives National Public Media Philanthropy Award
Arizona Public Media will be recognized for its fundraising efforts next month at a conference co-presented by the Public Broadcasting Service and Greater Public, a public media development organization.
The 2018 Philanthropy Development Award – which will be presented at the Public Media Development and Marketing Conference in Chicago – recognizes fundraising projects that "strengthened the financial sustainability of the station and positioned the station as a leading community institution."
The committee of public television professionals from around the country that selected the winners for the Philanthropy Development Award and other awards said it was impressed by "AZPM's ability to double (major gift) revenue by engaging key stakeholders, then empowering and mobilizing them to raise more money. ... This will be a great inspiration to other stations."
AZPM General Sales Manager Sandy Riggins and Development Director Enrique Aldana will represent the station at the July conference.
