University President Suresh Garimella expressed his "great optimism for the road ahead" in an opinion column that appeared in the April 13 edition of the Arizona Daily Star. Garimella, who began as president Oct. 1, highlighted the university's "real progress" and shared key updates for the year ahead.

"When we begin the next fiscal year in July, the university will do so with a balanced budget," Garimella wrote. "Tuition and fees will not increase for Arizona undergraduates this fall, and our outstanding faculty and staff will receive well-earned raises. These are not just financial outcomes; they reflect our belief that our people move this university forward."

Garimella's piece expands on his remarks from his formal installation on March 25 (view photos and videos from the ceremony on the Presidential Installation website). In the column, he restated his three key focus areas moving forward: access and success for every student, research that shapes the future, and community engagement.

In an April 17 email to faculty, staff and students, Garimella discussed the process behind developing those strategic imperatives and encouraged campus community members to provide input through a survey.
