The landmark agreement in 2015 established U of A/Banner academic medical centers in Phoenix and Tucson focused on on-site medical training, research to advance new treatments and patient care.
Over the past decade, the partnership has made significant strides in translating research into clinical care to improve patient outcomes, launched a comprehensive care program with Arizona Athletics and expanded residency and fellowship opportunities to address Arizona's physician shortage.
For the next several weeks, Health Sciences will share milestones from the past decade on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. Banner Health is marking the anniversary on its Instagram and Facebook pages. In upcoming issues, Lo Que Pasa will feature additional stories on the partnership's impact and future vision, highlighting the importance of academic medicine to the university and community.
Support student success with your Festivus purchases

The annual Festivus event offers employees 40% off one item and 30% off their entire purchase, with some exclusions.
Employees can find significant holiday discounts at the Campus Store's annual Festivus Employee Appreciation Event on Nov. 14 while store revenues help fund scholarships and student programs.
The event – which offers employees 40% off one item and 30% off their entire purchase (with some exclusions) – reflects the store's broader role in advancing student success. Each year, the Campus Store contributes about $71,000 in scholarships to roughly 275 students and more than $578,000 to the Associated Students of the University of Arizona.
Those who want to plan ahead can pre-shop Nov. 10-13 and place items on hold, then return on Nov. 14 to complete their purchase. Festivus festivities will include performances by a Mariachi band and the Faculty and Staff Choir.
Over the summer, the Campus Store increased the storewide discount for faculty, staff, alumni and retirees from 10% to 20%.
U of A selected for program to improve doctoral student outcomes
The University of Arizona is among 10 universities selected to join a Council of Graduate Schools project designed to improve doctoral student outcomes by examining and strengthening program structures.

Kirsten Limesand
The initiative, Creating Learning Environments for Advancing Researchers, or CLEAR, is supported by the National Science Foundation's Innovation in Graduate Education program. It will collect data from 60 doctoral programs at the 10 participating universities, building on research from the University of California, Berkeley, showing a strong correlation between student success and programs with clear, consistently applied expectations.
The goal is to improve educational and career outcomes for graduate students by creating greater transparency around the steps needed to complete doctoral programs and transition to STEM careers.
"The Graduate College is incredibly honored to be selected as one of ten institutions nationally to collaborate on the Council of Graduate Schools-led CLEAR project," said Kirsten Limesand, vice provost for graduate education and dean of the Graduate College. "We are thankful to our colleagues from 27 doctoral programs housed in 9 colleges who came together in this proposal to strengthen doctoral student success."
The Council of Graduate Schools represents about 460 higher education institutions in the United States and Canada focused on graduate education, research and preparing students to obtain advanced degrees.
