Domenic Alvaro, a UA finance major, learned a great deal while serving as a student worker at the Disability Resource Center. The experience left him with an even greater commitment to serving people facing challenges, and it enriched his academic, social and professional lives.
UA students have been collecting donated bikes in support of refugees living in Tucson. The students, who will be holding an event to accept donations and inform the community about bicycle safety, acknowledge that barriers to having consistent and reliable transportation can be especially challenging for refugees, and they hope the bicycles can help.
UA student veterans are dedicated to the local community. The UA chapter of the Student Veterans of America organizes several service projects and charity events throughout the year in an effort to give back. The students have done service projects with the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, the Ronald McDonald House, the Casa Maria Soup Kitchen and more.
UA alumni Alyssa Samuelson, Stephanos Antoniades and Olga Tsoudis are gearing up to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain. The three are engaged in an effort to raise funds for children living in orphanages. "I have greatly enjoyed giving back while being able to learn more about and experience different cultures," said Samuelson, who graduated with a business administration degree in 2000.
