Arizona Assurance scholar Kenneth Saufley first met UA music professor Edward Reid while taking trumpet lessons through a community-based organization. Saufley said Reid opened a new world of possibilities to him and encouraged him to pursue studies at the UA. Today, the two are paired through the University's Arizona Assurance program, one that provides academic, financial and social support for Arizona residents who qualify for the program.
For four decades, members of the UA community have contributed to the evolution of Tucson Meet Yourself, an important annual festival that honors cultural diversity and heritage of the southwestern region. In recent years, members of the festival's staff and board, many of them UA affiliates, have helped grow the festival and positioned the nonprofit to begin extending its vision into other Arizona communities.

UA alumnus Daniel Wiegand has been on a mission to help his brother, Jack Wiegand, become the youngest solo pilot to fly around the globe. The aim? To break the Guinness World Record. Extra money raised will benefit charity. Daniel Wiegand is a past president of the UA Flying Club, which promotes flying as a career and a hobby.
