The comet C/2020 F3 NEOWISE made its once-in-a-lifetime close approach to the sun on July 3 and will cross outside the Earth's orbit on its way back to the outer parts of the solar system by mid-August.

"It's really hard not to see this as some kind of interference or snub (to) the CDC," said University of Arizona epidemiologist Saskia Popescu. "With so many concerns over the politicization of data right now, this is concerning."

"We are pleased that the Trump administration rescinded this guidance and that international students will not have to choose between their education and their health and safety," said University of Arizona President Robert C. Robbins.

Saskia Popescu, an infection prevention epidemiologist at the University of Arizona, thinks advice from experts needs to be pragmatic and take into account that conditions vary across the country. "Social responsibility is huge, but if we don't do effective risk communication and education, you're failing people."

Elliot Truslow went to a CVS drugstore in Tucson to get tested for the coronavirus on June 15. The drive-thru nasal swab test took less than 15 minutes. More than 26 days later, the University of Arizona graduate student was still waiting for the results. Truslow's experience is an extreme example of the growing wait times that accompany a coronavirus test in the United States.

Researchers are developing wearable technology to help in the fight against COVID-19. "This is not to make the diagnosis. This is to augment the diagnosis," said Dr. Marvin Slepian, a Regents Professor in the Sarver Heart Center.
