The University of Arizona's choral programs are adjusting their rehearsals and performances amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Media and academics often equate assimilation with the process of immigrants becoming more similar to U.S.-born populations over time and across generations, says University of Arizona researcher Christina Diaz.

"If those thoughts are not helping you, then you can learn to turn your attention away from them," said Mary-Frances O'Connor, an associate professor of psychology at the University of Arizona who specializes in grief.

Excelencia in Education, a national organization focused on accelerating Latino student success in higher education, announced four evidence-based programs across the U.S. – including one University of Arizona program – as winners of its 2020 Examples of Excelencia award.

Ty Smith, a retired United States Navy SEAL senior chief with 20 years of service and founder and CEO of  CommSafe [ai], a technology company that specializes in conflict and violence prevention, is a member of the Ashford University Board of Trustees. Smith writes about how his experiences as an Ashford University student helped him begin his journey.

Saskia Popescu, an epidemiologist and biodefense expert at the University of Arizona, said the new CDC guidance is "quite good." She added that "the term airborne means so much to so many people," and the guidance does a good job of emphasizing that the virus appears to only spread by air in certain environments, such as crowded indoor and poorly ventilated spaces.

Environmental microbiologists and public health researchers at the University of Arizona recently held a workshop with a panel of laundry cleaning and sanitization experts to review the current knowledge and science surrounding laundry best practices.

University of Arizona students, faculty and staff can now download and opt in to the Covid Watch exposure notification smartphone app, which allows users who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 to anonymously notify others who may have been exposed.

Cities and universities across the U.S. are looking into using wastewater-based epidemiology to track the spread of COVID-19.
