Updated Youth Protection Requirements
The University of Arizona has updated its youth protection requirements and processes to reflect evolving best practices in the field.
New Interim Policy and Updated Requirements
The university has adopted a new interim Non-Enrolled Minors Policy, which applies to activities, events or programs involving non-enrolled minors offered by the university or held on university property. Updated program requirements and support resources were developed to augment the Policy.
New Policy updates include:
- Broadened child abuse and neglect reporting requirements
- Requirements for student organizations
- Increased frequency of criminal background checks for adults
- Enhanced clarity related to exempt activities and third-party programs
- Authority delegated to the Office of Youth Protection to audit programs
New requirements, processes and support resources include:
- Expanded program planning guides and templates
- Updated forms for parents/guardians
- Revised behavioral expectations for authorized representatives and revised training
- Availability of medical protocols and transportation guidelines

Support
This interim policy was approved and is in effect immediately and replaces the prior Interactions with Non-Enrolled Minors Policy. Programs that have not completed registration under the prior policy should proceed under the new interim Policy and follow updated requirements and processes.
