Recognize and report workplace safety concerns
Early detection and prompt correction of workplace safety concerns protect employees, visitors and facility operations. Most workplace injuries can be prevented through awareness and action. Environmental Health and Safety is your partner in maintaining a safe and compliant workplace.
What is a workplace safety concern?
Anything with potential to cause injury or illness, including but not limited to:
- Slip, trip or fall hazards: worn carpeting; loose or broken floor tiles; obstructed walkways; window, door or roof leaks
- Air quality: dust, mold, humidity, temperature concerns
- Exposure concerns: particulate matter, ventilation (fume hood) performance, loud equipment or spaces
- Hazardous waste: improper disposal or handling
How to report
- Notify your supervisor first.
- If action is not taken by the supervisor, submit a workplace safety concern report to EHS.
- To make an anonymous report, use the Ethics and Compliance Hotline.
After you report to EHS
- You will receive a copy of your report
- EHS will contact you within 1-2 business days
- EHS will review, investigate and make recommendations
If you choose to report anonymously, you will not receive a copy of your report or follow-up from EHS.
Retaliation against employees who report safety hazards is prohibited, as defined in the Workplace Health and Safety Policy.
