Arizona's First Public College of Veterinary Medicine

The University of Arizona has received official approval to establish the state's first public College of Veterinary Medicine. The American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education has issued a Letter of Reasonable Assurance of accreditation, which is the first step toward full accreditation.

The College is characterized by an innovative approach to veterinary medical education that will allow students to graduate in three years and offers low in-state student tuition for Arizona residents. More veterinarians in Arizona will mean improved animal and human health overall, and this is an important way for the university – as Arizona's land-grant institution – to meet the needs of our state's economy and students.

The University received a tremendous amount of support over many years in achieving this remarkable accomplishment. There were many groups and individuals across the state who helped us get here, and I am grateful. I also want to congratulate Dean Julie Funk and her team for hitting this important milestone.
