University Medical Center has been identified has one of the top 100 hospitals for intensive care in the United States, according to a benchmark study by the Solucient Leadership Institute, a health care information company.

The study, 100 Top Hospitals: ICU Benchmarks for Success 2000 is the first comparative analysis of ICU (intensive care) performance. The study ranked hospitals based on death and complication rates, efficient use of resources and the amount of time patients spend in the hospital.

"We are delighted to receive this recognition," said UMC Chief Operating Officer John DuVal. "ICU physicians and staff do a great job in providing care for our patients in this community. Receiving the top 100 ranking is a terrific validation of these efforts."
