UMC Among Nations Best for ICU and Cardiac Care

May 30, 2001

University Medical Center (UMC) provides some of the best cardiac and intensive care in the nation, say two independent studies.

In February, the Solucinet Leadership Institute named UMC among the top 100 hospitals nationwide for intensive care based on clinical outcomes and costs.

Last spring, the HCIA-Sachs Institute listed the hospital among its "100 Top Hospitals: Cardiovascular Benchmarks for Success." The study found significant differences in performance between top hospitals like UMC and its peers, with variations of 11 to 22 percent in clinical outcomes for heart patients. The study also found top hospitals operate at nearly $700 less per case.
