The University of Arizona Museum of Art has announced the appointment of Meg Hagyard as its interim director.

Hagyard has spent the past year working with the staff of the museum and the Center for Creative Photography as senior director of external relations for the UA's Office of Research, Discovery and Innovation. Her work with both institutions includes strengthening campus and community partnerships, developing funding sources, and increasing awareness of the institutions on the local, state and national levels.

"I am so pleased and honored to have the opportunity to work in this new capacity with the talented and committed staff, volunteers and supporters of the University of Arizona Museum of Art," Hagyard said.

Previously, Hagyard was a part of the UA Foundation team working to bring philanthropic support to the University. Her position as director of the gift center allowed her the opportunity to work with units across campus and to help forge grant strategies.

Hagyard, a native Tucsonan and alumna of the UA School of Art, has been active in the Tucson arts community for more than 20 years. During that time, she has worked and volunteered with numerous arts organizations, including the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Tucson Children's Museum. She currently serves on the board of the Sonoran Glass School.

R. Brooks Jeffery, UA associate vice president for Arts, Culture and Society, said, "Meg's appointment as interim director of UAMA is a natural extension of the tremendous leadership she has shown in external relations with the museums over the past year. Her broad network in the Tucson arts community will be a tremendous asset as she helps us define the next chapter of leadership at UAMA."

As interim director, Hagyard will work with museum staff to further the diverse and robust exhibition and programs schedule and prepare for the American Alliance of Museums reaccreditation process. She also will continue in her role as senior director of external relations.
