Tucson Cine Mexico, a partnership between the University of Arizona Hanson Film Institute and New York-based Cinema Tropical, will present the Arizona premiere of "The Thin Yellow Line (La delgada línea amarilla)."

The award-winning film from emerging Mexican director/writer Celso García and producer Guillermo del Toro will be screened on April 23 at the Harkins Tucson Spectrum 18 in Tucson. García will be in attendance to receive Tucson Cine Mexico’s Jaguar Award for Feature Directorial Debut.

"Celso García is a director to watch, and we're looking forward to welcoming him to Tucson," said Vicky Westover, director of the Hanson Film Institute. "We're proud that Tucson Cine Mexico continues to showcase the best contemporary work coming from Mexico to a highly diverse appreciative audience that fills the theater."

In the film, five men are hired to paint the lines of a road. The work is slow enough for them to learn the lines between good and evil, laughter and despair, and life and death. The challenges they face will change their lives forever.

"The Thin Yellow Line" swept four awards during its world premiere at the 2015 Guadalajara Film Festival, earning Best Screenplay, Special Jury Prize, Audience Award and Mexican Film Critics Award. The film went on to win Best Latin-American Film at the Montreal Film Festival and Grand Newcomer Award at the Mannheim-Heidelberg Film Festival. To date, it has been screened at 33 film festivals worldwide and won 14 international awards.

Prior to completing "The Thin Yellow Line," Mexico City-born García's short films "Pata de Gallo" and "Water and Milk" won awards at the Instituto Méxicano de Cinematografía's National Shortfilm Project Competition. "Water and Milk" went on to screen at 46 film festivals and win 22 international awards.

Tucson Cine Mexico, the longest-running showcase of Mexican films in the U.S., will return in 2017 with an expansion of the festival. Now in its 11th year, it focuses exclusively on the work of Mexican directors.
