UA to Host More Than 100,000 Book Lovers
The University is a major sponsor of the highly anticipated 2016 Tucson Festival of Books, which promotes literacy and community engagement and will be held March 12 and 13.
Some of the greatest minds in the world of writing will present during the Tucson Festival of Books, one of the most anticipated annual events in the Southwest.
The University of Arizona has been a major sponsor of the festival, and the official host site, since its origins in 2009.
The Tucson Festival of Books has since generated more than $1.2 million in donations toward efforts to improve literacy rates in southern Arizona.
The newly announced list of authors for the 2016 festival, to be held March 12 and 13, includes Karen Bao, Elena Díaz Bjorkquist, Maureen Corrigan, T.S. Fields, Jonathan Kellerman, Sonia Manzano, Mary McDonough, Adam Rex, R. L. Stine, Luis Alberto Urrea, Terry Tempest Williams and Alan Zweibel.
Also, the festival coincides with the viewing of William Shakespeare's First Folio. The UA was competitively selected by the Folger Shakespeare Library to serve as Arizona's host site for the First Folio, which is part of a traveling tour commemorating the 400-year anniversary of Shakespeare's death.
The UA Libraries and its partners will host an exhibition containing the First Folio from Feb. 15 to March 15. Also, the Tucson Festival of Books will feature numerous authors whose writings are related to Shakespeare.
