It's good to be a Wildcat.

That's the conclusion The Princeton Review reached in its annual survey of American college students, as it listed the University of Arizona among "The 381 Best Colleges: 2017 Edition," released Monday.

The Princeton Review — a Massachusetts-based education services company known for its test-prep courses, tutoring, books and various student resources — does not issue overall rankings for the 381 schools. Instead, it assigns scores ranging from a low of 60 to a high of 99 in a variety of categories, based on the responses of more than 143,000 students.

The UA excelled in campus sustainability or "green" initiatives (93), quality of life (92) and fire safety (91).

In a few categories that were ranked, the UA placed second in Best Health Services, 17th in Students Pack the Stadiums, 19th in Best Athletic Facilities and 25th in Top Entrepreneurial Programs/Undergraduate.

The UA also received mention in the unranked categories of Best Western, Colleges That Pay You Back and Green Colleges.

The Princeton Review also reports that 112 countries are represented among the UA's nearly 34,000 undergraduate students, and that 80 percent of freshmen return for their sophomore year.

The survey asks students 84 questions about their school's academics, administration, student body and themselves. The ranking methodology uses a five-point Likert scale to convert qualitative student assessments into quantitative data for school-to-school comparisons.

UA students said that their school focuses on providing its students with "endless opportunities," and that the University's "strong commitment to undergraduate research" helps "provide a well-rounded education and numerous opportunities that prepare students for their future ambitions."

The Princeton Review's announcement follows the UA's placement of 73rd by the Center for World University Rankings — the only University in the state to appear in the top 100. The UA's overall score of 52.46 placed it 46th among U.S. universities on the CWUR list, with high marks for influence, citations, broad impact and alumni employment.
