Tyler Wins First Round Match at U.S. Amateur

Former University of Arizona men’s golfer Nathan Tyler won his first round match Wednesday at the Olympic Club in San Francisco.

 

The 18th-seeded Tyler, who completed his collegiate eligibility last spring, posted a 4-up win over 47th seeded Chris Rockwell of Owings Mill, Md. Tyler won holes 3, 7, 11 and 14 and closed out the match with a par-5 on No. 16. He never trailed in the match.

 

A native of Tucson, Ariz., Tyler will face No. 15 seed Kyle Dickey of Summerville, S.C., in Thursday’s second round.

 

The 107th U.S. Amateur Championship runs through Aug. 26, at the Olympic Club. The Olympic Club’s Lakeside Course is a par-70, 6,948-yard layout.
