The University of Arizona's Hanson Film Institute and industry partners will screen the Sundance award-winning film, "Sangre de Mi Sangre." The screening is free and open to the public and is being shown as part of a conference being held at next week on filmmaking along the border.

The screening of "Sangre de Mi Sangre" will be held on Thursday March 27 at the Fox Tucson Theatre.

The screening – which precedes the film's U.S. release, scheduled for May – is part of the “U.S. Mexico Border States Conference” being held at the UA on March 27 and 28.

"Sangre de Mi Sangre" is about a young Mexican who smuggles himself into New York City in search of his long-lost father only to have his identity stolen by an impostor out to steal the father’s fortune.

The film was written and directed by Christopher Zalla, produced by Benjamin Odell and Per Melita and stars two-time Mexican Academy Award winner Jesús Ochoa, Mexican Academy Award nominated Armando Hernández, Jorge Adrian Espindola, Paola Mendoza and Eugenio Derbez. The film is in English and Spanish with subtitles.

The screening celebrates international films, including the collaboration and economic benefits they bring. The film will be followed by a question-and-answer session with Odell.

The screening and the conference are presented by The Motion Picture Association of America, the UA, the Hanson Film Institute, the National Law Center for Inter-American Free Trade and the Mexico Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The screening is made possible by IFC Films and is sponsored by Cox.

"We are delighted to be able to show this film to Tucson audiences," said Vicky Westover, program director at the Hanson Film Institute. Besides having a chance to see an award-winning film, the audience will have the chance to hear from Odell about producing films for Latino audiences, she noted.
