Respiratory Sciences Center Physician Receives National Recognition:

Dr. Donata Vercelli, associate professor at the Arizona Respiratory Sciences Center, has been named one of five recipients of the Women Physicians in Allergy Award at the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology Annual Meeting in New Orleans.

The Women in Physicians in Allergy program recognizes and honors women dedicated to advancing the knowledge and treatment of allergic disease through education, research and service.

Vercelli and her laboratory work on gene expression studies within the Functional Genomics Program at the Center, seeking to determine the impact genetic variation has on allergy and asthma. The Arizona Respiratory Sciences Center is a Center of Excellence at the Arizona Health Sciences Center.

Linda Phillips Wins Nursing Research Award

Linda Phillips, associate dean for research at the University of Arizona College of Nursing and co-director of the Arizona Center on Aging, earned the first Regional Gerontological Nursing Research Award from the Western Institute of Nursing.

The Award is given by the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing for outstanding contributions to enhance the care of older adults.

UA Physician Mindy Fain Named Geriatrician of the Year
Dr. Mindy J. Fain, assistant professor of clinical medicine in the UA department of medicine, was selected Geriatrician of the Year by the Arizona Geriatrics Society. Fain joined the UA is 1985, and led the first geriatric home care program in Arizona, which brought social services, pharmacy support, physical therapy and sophisticated medical management to individuals who were bound to the home due to chronic illness.
