Michael Chihak, editor and publisher of the Tucson Citizen, was recognized as the Alumnus of the Year by the UA College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) at the Alumni Association Alumnus of the Year Awards Ceremony on April 24.

Chihak, a 1971 UA graduate with a degree in journalism, has been on the SBS advisory board since 2001 and began chairing the board in 2002. He also helped launch the college's new fundraising society, the Magellan Circle.

"In Tucson, the university influences virtually every facet of life - economics, culture, social change. Being involved with the university means reaching out to the whole community," Chihak said.

Ed Donnerstein, dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, said "There really wasn't a question who we should name as our alumnus of the year. Michael has devoted countless hours to help raise money for our college as well as helping to raise the profile of SBS in the community. We cannot thank him enough."

Another SBS graduate was honored at the event: Retired Pima County Superior Court Judge Margaret M. Houghton, a graduate of the UA anthropology department, was named Alumnus of the Year by the Honors College.
