The new century in American foreign policy, the presidency, poverty and the borderlands are the topics for the spring semester Political Science Salon Series.

The four lecturers in the series are all faculty members of the political science department at the University of Arizona in Tucson. They include:

Feb. 21: "America in the World of the 21st Century" _ Allen Whiting, Regents Professor, former high ranking official in the State Department and an authority on China and its relations with the United States;

March 7: "Electing America's Leaders for the 221st Century" _ Barbara Norrander, professor of political science who conducts research on presidential nomination politics. She is the author of "Super Tuesday: Regional Politics and Presidential Primaries" and is looking at the primary candidates on their quest for their parties nominations;

March 21: "Poverty, Affluence and the Pursuit of the American Dream in the 21st Century" _ John Schwarz is a nationally respected authority on America's economic underclass whose latest book, "Illusions of Opportunity: the Aemrican Dream in Question," garnered a nomination for a Pulitzer Prize; and

April 4: "Mexico, the United States and the Borderlands in the 21st Century" _ Edward Williams teaches, researches and writes about public policy and its impact on the U.S.-Mexico border and serves on the North American Agreement on Labor Cooperation, the national advisory board of NAFTA's labor side accord.
