The Eller College of Business and Public Administration signed an agreement on Sept. 4 with the College of Business and Management of the University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, to guide the development of the business programs of the University of Sharjah and assist in identifying a dean to provide the leadership for the college's growth, as well as faculty to teach in its programs.

His Highness, Shaikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al-Qassimi, The Ruler of Sharjah, met with UA President Peter Likins, Mark Zupan, dean of the Eller College of Business and Public Administration, and Affiliate Programs Director Simon Horness in Wyche Cross, England , to sign the agreement.

His Highness Shaikh Dr. Sultan, who holds two doctorate degrees from British universities, has given a high priority to building an outstanding educational system in Sharjah.

After extensive investigation, he determined that the American model of business education is best for his country. Because the University of Arizona has long been involved in the United Arab Emirates, providing technical assistance in agriculture and aquaculture, he turned to the highly ranked Eller College for help.

At the meeting, Sultan and Likins agreed that this is another step in cooperative efforts between the two countries and, specifically with this new program, a step in the development of higher education in the United Arab Emirates.
If this project realizes its potential for mutual benefit of the business and public administration programs in the two universities, both parties are committed to exploring possibilities in other fields of study. The UA has about 50 alumni in the Emirates, many holding prominent positions in the private and public sectors.
