Cutietta Appointed Music and Dance Interim Director
Rob Cutietta, current associate director of the UA School of Music and Dance, has been appointed the School's interim director, a position which has been held by Gary Cook for the past five years. Cook announced earlier this month that he is stepping down from the position he held for the past five years, and he will return to a teaching position on the faculty.
Maurice J. Sevigny, dean of the College of Fine Arts (CFA), said in a memo that Cutietta's appointment came with "high endorsement from the faculty and staff and the enthusiastic support of the CFA executive committee and the SOMD's advisory board." Sevigny said in the memo that Cutietta will recruit and select his administrative support team in the near future.
Cutietta earned an doctorate in music education from Pennsylvania State University in 1982. He also holds a master of music and bachelor of arts in music education from Cleveland State University. He joined the UA music faculty in 1994 and was appointed associate director of the School in 1996. Prior to coming to the UA, he taught at Kent State University, Montana State University, Pennsylvania State University and Cleveland State University. Among the honors he has received are the College of Fine Arts Putnam Award, the School of Music and Dance Maestro Award and the National Orff Society Distinguished Educator Award.
