Boyer to Head New Arizona Liver Institute
Dr. Thomas Boyer, a leading expert in the diagnosis and treatment of liver disorders, has been appointed director of the new Arizona Liver Institute at the UA College of Medicine.
Boyer comes to the UA from Emory University in Atlanta, where he was a professor and director of the Division of Digestive Diseases.
Established with funding from the Arizona Legislature, the Arizona Liver Institute will search for chemical and natural agents that offer potential cures for liver disease.
Boyer's goal is to develop the institute into a world-renowned clinical- and basic-research program for chronic liver disease, which kills about 26,000 Americans annually.
