The Arizona Contemporary Ensemble (A.C.E.) presents a concert featuring the music of contemporary composers Earle Brown, Giorgy Ligeti, Edgar Varese and Eugene O'Brien.

Brown will be in residence at the UA School of Music and Dance and will be in attendance at the concert. Born in 1926, he has been a major force in contemporary music since the early 1950s. His work at that time, with new notations, scoring methods and performance attitudes, led to his development of graphic, improvisational and "open-form" scores. Since that time, he has continued to develop his "open-form" concepts and performance techniques in new ways.

Two doctoral students will be featured in the concert. Pianist Toros Can will play music by Ligeti. Can recorded a CD of Ligeti's music, which already has been released in Europe and is slated for February release in the United States. The second D.M.A. student, Katherine Kitzman, horn, will perform "Density 21.5" by Varese, a French-born, American composer.
