Angels Fund Diabetes Wing
May 30, 2001
Tucson's Angel Charity for Children has pledged $750,000 to the Steele Memorial Children's Research Center to create a wing dedicated to research and treatment of juvenile diabetes.
The donation will finance the renovation of 3,300 square feet of outdated laboratory space into a comprehensive program to fight diabetes.
Nationally, 1 in 500 children have juvenile diabetes, but in Arizona 1 in 400 have the disease. The incidence rate is 1 in 250 for Hispanic children and 1 in 200 for Native Americans.
