World Water Day: UA Expert Availability

TUCSON, Ariz. — "Leaving no one behind" is the theme of World Water Day, which takes place Friday, March 22. This theme is an extension the central promise of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: as sustainable development progresses, everyone must benefit.

Water is an essential building block of life. Beyond even the nutrition and health impacts, water is vital for creating jobs and supporting economic, social and human development. The following University of Arizona experts are available to discuss these issues with media:

  • Victor Baker, Regents' Professor in the Department of Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences. Baker studies floods, fluvial paleohydrology and geomorphology, plus issues of science and society in relation to policy, the environment, and philosophy of science.
  • George Frisvold, a professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics. Frisvold's research interests include domestic and international environmental policy, as well as the causes and consequences of technological change in agriculture.
  • Robert Glennon, Regents' Professor; Morris K. Udall Professor of Law and Public Policy in the James E. Rogers College of Law. Glennon's research involves water resources and policy issues including Colorado River water rights and the legal relationship between surface and groundwater.
  • Sharon Megdal, director of the Water Resources Research Center. Megdal's work focuses on state, regional and transboundary water resources management and policy, and places particular emphasis on how to achieve desired policy objectives in terms of institutional structures and possible changes to them.
  • Christopher Scott, director of the Udall Center for Studies in Public Policy. Scott's research focus is on water supply and reuse systems, water and climate in the Southwest U.S./Northern Sonora and Asia, the transboundary aquifer assessment project, and water and energy in the U.S.-Mexico border region.
