Media Advisory: U of A to welcome President Suresh Garimella on his first day on campus

TUCSON, Ariz. — Suresh Garimella will spend his first day on campus as 23rd president of the University of Arizona on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
He will give brief remarks near the steps at Old Main at 10 a.m., after being introduced by interim provost Ron Marx.
Members of the media and community are invited to attend.
Garimella comes to the U of A from the University of Vermont, where he has served as president since 2019. Previously, he served as executive vice president for research and partnerships at Purdue University.
A professor of mechanical engineering, Garimella is a highly cited scholar and researcher and a passionate educator and mentor who has been appointed a University Distinguished Professor at the U of A.
The Arizona Board of Regents voted unanimously to approve Garimella as the next U of A president, following a comprehensive national search fueled by the work of the U of A Presidential Search Advisory Committee and informed by community feedback.
