TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of Arizona is opening Tumamoc Hill to media on Thursday, Feb. 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in advance of the public ribbon cutting and reopening ceremony scheduled for Saturday. Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. The Tumamoc Hill road will reopen to the public at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6. On Thursday, members of the media will be allowed to drive to the Desert Laboratory, located approximately halfway up Tumamoc Hill's newly repaved 1 1/2-mile road. The location provides an exceptional view of the surrounding mountains and the city. Official vehicles with station identification are preferred, and arrangements can be made for television crews who may wish to arrive early to prepare for live broadcasts at noon. Ben Wilder, director of Tumamoc Hill, will be available to discuss Tumamoc Hill and the Desert Laboratory, including the archeological and ecological significance of Tumamoc Hill and the UA's future plans for the facilities. |
