TUCSON, Ariz. — Friends and family of Allison Feldman will gather on the UA campus at 10:30 a.m. on Friday to celebrate her life and launch the second annual campaign to raise funds for study abroad scholarships in her memory. Feldman was murdered in her Scottsdale home on Feb. 17, 2015, and her family and members of the UA community are working together to keep her legacy alive. The Allison Feldman Memorial Study Abroad Scholarship was created last February with help from the UA Foundation and thanks to Feldman's parents and Monica Brown and Robert Stirling, who studied in Spain with her. The goal of the crowdfunding campaign was $25,000, with donations reaching $30,000. Taylor Lepird, the first recipient of the scholarship, is studying English and global studies at the UA and has chosen to participate in the IDEAS Guatemala program during the spring semester. Starting this month, the team is working again with Feldman's family and friends, the UA Foundation and UA Study Abroad to raise additional funds for the Allison Feldman Memorial Study Abroad Scholarship. A crowdfunding campaign is underway through a dedicated webpage. The goal for this round is to raise an additional $10,000 by March 3. Speakers include Suzanne Panferov Reese, associate vice president for global engagement at the UA, Harley Feldman (Allison's father), Stirling, Brown, Melissa Fitch, Distinguished Professor in the UA Department of Spanish and Portuguese and Feldman's faculty advisor, and staff with the UA Foundation and UA Global. ### |
