University of Arizona faculty members Alison Hawthorne Deming, Hoshin Gupta and Pham Huu Tiep have received the appointment of Regents' Professor for 2017. The state's highest faculty rank goes to full professors who have demonstrated achievements resulting in national or international recognition.
The new Regents' Professors were honored at a ceremony on Thursday in Crowder Hall. At that time, the UA also presented awards to University Distinguished Professor Melissa Fitch and University Distinguished Outreach Faculty Daniel McDonald.
Tiep is on sabbatical and was not present at the ceremony. Also not present was Dr. David G. Armstrong, who was named University Distinguished Outreach Faculty for 2017 before leaving the UA to join the University of Southern California.
History professor Julia Clancy-Smith, named a Regents' Professor for 2015 but unable to participate in the corresponding ceremony, joined the new group at Thursday's event.
