Media Advisory: UA Hosting Inaugural Cannabis Symposium

TUCSON, Ariz. — The Inaugural Interdisciplinary Cannabis Symposium will take place Sept. 25 at DuVal Auditorium. It is designed to inform the university and the Tucson community of recent evidence-based research and the potential values of cannabis in human and veterinary medicine.

More than a dozen universities in the U.S. are engaged in science-based cannabis research and teaching, including the University of California System, State University of New York Morrisville, Cornell University, Colorado State University, University of Maryland Baltimore and others. Research into pain perception and the endocannabinoid receptor system has been ongoing for more than a decade at the UA.

Speakers include:

• Raphael Gruener, UA professor emeritus, event organizer
• Todd Vanderah, professor of pharmacology, UA College of Medicine – Tucson
• Suman Chandra, senior research specialist, University of Mississippi
• Tom Marcotte, professor of psychiatry, University of California, San Diego
• Natalie Eddington, School of Pharmacy dean, University of Maryland, Baltimore
• David Meiri, professor in the laboratory of cancer biology, The Technion, Israel
• Richard Huntsman, professor of pediatric neurology, University of Saskatchewan
• Yu Fung Lin, associate professor of physiology, University of California, Davis
