12 and Up to be Eligible for Vaccination at UArizona
TUCSON, Ariz. — Beginning Thursday, the University of Arizona will open its COVID-19 vaccination POD to those 12 and older. The expanded eligibility comes on the heels of the FDA approving Pfizer's vaccine for emergency use in adolescents 12 to 15 years old.
Appointments for those age 12 to 15 can be scheduled at podvaccine.azdhs.gov beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday. Those who need assistance with scheduling can call 602-542-1000 or 844-542-8201 for help in English or Spanish. A limited number of walk-ins also will be accepted. A parent or guardian must be present.
The university is an all-Pfizer vaccination POD, or point of distribution. The other state PODs in Arizona, which also offer the Pfizer vaccine, are lowering their age limit to 12 as well. When searching for a vaccine provider on the Arizona Department of Health Services website, users can filter their results by vaccine type.
UArizona's vaccination POD is located inside the Ina E. Gittings Building, 1737 E. University Blvd. The POD is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily.
To date, more than 222,000 vaccine doses have been administered at UArizona.
Those who need help navigating the UArizona POD can call the COVID Ambassador Team hotline at 520-848-4045 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily or email covidhelp@arizona.edu.
As more people are vaccinated and demand decreases, the university's POD will be adjusting its operating hours, and June 25 will be the POD's last day.
The hours are:
- Through May 22, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily
- May 23, CLOSED
- May 24-28, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily
- May 29-31, CLOSED
- June 1-25, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday (second doses only)
