Center for Creative Photography events will celebrate 'The Linda McCartney Retrospective'
"The Linda McCartney Retrospective"makes its North American premiere at the Center for Creative Photography from Feb. 25 to Aug. 5.
The University of Arizona Center for Creative Photography will hold a grand opening community day event to celebrate the opening of "The Linda McCartney Retrospective" exhibit, which will make its North American premiere at the center from Feb. 25 to Aug. 5.
The exhibition, which includes nearly 200 pieces spanning McCartney's 30-year, barrier-breaking career, runs through Aug. 5. The collection features photos of music icons including The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Aretha Franklin, as well as images of McCartney's domestic life in London and Tucson, giving viewers a look at some of her most intimate relationships.
The grand opening event kicks off a semester full of programming designed to engage the community with the exhibition and themes and causes that were important to McCartney throughout her life, including creative arts, sustainability and animal rights.
The following events are free and open to the public.

The opening day of "The Linda McCartney Retrospective" will feature activities inspired by the center and the exhibition. Visitors will be invited to exchange their favorite recipes at the "Take a recipe, leave a recipe" table, chat with Tucson vegan advocates Gissel Guzman and Hannah Hernandez, take part in a scavenger hunt, and create their own McCartney-inspired cyanotypes – dark greenish-blue photographic prints.
At noon, Sarah Brown, photographic curator at the Linda McCartney Archives, will speak about McCartney's life and legacy at the Health Sciences Innovation Building, in the building's ground-floor Forum, followed by a question-and-answer session moderated by Rebecca Senf, chief curator at the Center for Creative Photography.
Hazel Larsen Archer Exhibit: 'Sessions on Creative Photography' | Feb. 25-Aug. 5, Center for Creative Photography
Visitors can explore the work of the woman who McCartney said "inspired me to become a photographer." The exhibit looks at the career of Hazel Larsen Archer, from her instrumental work in photography in mid-century avant-garde art circles to her transformative approach to photo education.
Inspired by McCartney's work as a photographer and activist, this series of talks will feature artists, curators and entrepreneurs discussing pressing historical, cultural and environmental issues through the lens of photography.

This series, presented in partnership with Arizona Arts Live, features live music performances by eight local musicians. During their sets, each performer will debut an original song inspired by an archived image of the Southwest – including four of McCartney's images – at the Center for Creative Photography. The series reflects the spirit of Tucson, McCartney’s photography and her love for music. Each performance beings at 5:30 p.m. at the center.

Inspired by McCartney's vegan lifestyle and the Food Network show "Mary McCartney Serves it Up!" hosted by Linda and Paul McCartney's daughter Mary, the Center for Creative Photography will bring people together to participate in art activities that speak to sustainability in food and other areas. Community partners with aligned values, such as local vegan bloggers and student organizations, will be on hand with educational materials to share.
