While pursuing her studies at the UA, Candace Galla was actively involved in the American Indian Language Development Institute, which provides training in linguistics, education and language preservation. A three-time UA alumna, Galla continues her work at the University of British Columbia, where she is studying and teaching the importance of indigenous language revitalization, namely through a performance course in hula.
The UA Dining Services team is active all but two hours every day preparing desserts, pastries, breads and other baked goods for Redington Catering, the UA's official catering service for conferences, meetings, athletic banquets, socials and other campus events. Staff members also make goods for 34 locations across campus. New treats are being developed this year.
Mars Science Laboratory's Curiosity rover is scheduled to land on the Red Planet Aug. 5. In advance of the landing, Science Downtown is hosting a celebration event on Aug. 4 that is open to the UA and Tucson communities. It will include special guests, displays, tours and other activities.
